Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Just Us Books is an independent, Black-owned publisher of books for young people that focus on African-American history, culture and experiences. Founded in 1988 by husband and wife team, Wade and Cheryl Hudson, this innovative company is now considered one of the leading publishers of Black interest titles for young people.
Just Us Books has had a major impact on the publishing industry from its inception. When the AFRO-BETS® ABC Book was released, there were very few Black interest books being published and widely distributed. The pioneering efforts of the Hudsons helped to demonstrate that there is a viable, year-round market for Black interest books for young people. Today, more Black interest books for children and young adults are published annually, and more of these books find their way onto the shelves of book stores and retail outlets across the nation and the world. |
